Below is an example of how to write your internship experience in a structured way. For fresh graduate, besides personality & attitude, internship & final year project is an important tool for your success in getting a job. For a start, it should comes from your resume.
1) Company Name must be there
2) Duration of the internship
3) Scope of Work would be the most important part to describe in more detail your scope of work.
a) Dept you attached to & who do you report to, product involve in & application of the product,
describe whether it is IC level/board level/product level
b) Main scope of work/task
c) Describe each of the task in more detail
4) Knowledge & experience gained comes in 3 categories
a) Hardware / tools eg tester, oscilloscope, voltmeter, FTIR, etc
b) Software knowledge eg Minitab, AutoCad, Cadence, etc
c) Process knowledge eg troubleshooting steps for IC failure, SPC, FMEA, design process flow, recruitment process flow, how to write a customer complaint report, reliability testing process, etc
Example of a internship for graduate with Electrical Electronics Engineering background.
Internship
Company : ABC (M) Sdn Bhd
Duration : 3months (May2008-Jul2008)
Scope of Work :
-Attached to Test Manufacturing Dept & reports to Senior Engineer
-Responsible for testing, data collection & analyzing data for new product (IC for sensor application in security system) before launched to mass production to ensure product is within test specs
-Perform IC testing on required parameters eg open/short, voltage, etc using tester. Highlight & work together with engineer to solve ICs which are out of spec
-Involve in group discussion to troubleshoot & solve default ICs
-Perform data analyzing using Minitab & Excel to observe difference/shift which might occur to different testing lots
Knowledge/experience gained:
-Able to setup & run units/ICs on tester & TIU
-Experience with intermediate level on Minitab & Excel
-Data analyzing skills & step-by-step troubleshooting skills for IC
